Graduate Profile - Deloitte

Role - Senior Associate

Department / Service Line / Industry - Audit

Degree / University - Economics & Statistics, University College London

When did you join Deloitte? - October 2009

Why did you join Deloitte? - I had a few friends that worked for Deloitte, and they had a lot of positive things to say about the firm. Therefore while at University I applied for the Summer Vacation Scheme and was fortunate enough to get a place at St Albans. I really enjoyed the challenge and felt it was the ideal place to start my career, and so when I got offered a graduate job at the end of my summer placement, I had no hesitation in accepting it.

What does your role involve? - Now that I am in my second year, I have started to work on more complex areas of the audit. It is difficult to say what a typical day is like as every day I am doing something different. However, the majority of the time I am based at the client's site performing fieldwork which involves a high degree of client interaction. In addition to this, I am also midway through my ACA qualification, and therefore spend some time at College to prepare for my exams.

Describe your experience to date - I believe that one of the bet things about working Deloitte St Albans, is the environment in the office. Everyone that I have worked with has been really supportive and friendly, and that goes with the culture of the firm.

When I joined, there were 14 other people that started at the same time as me, and since we were all recently graduated from University, it made it easy to settle in as there were a lot of people at the same level.

There are definitely countless opportunities to challenge yourself and you can really learn a lot in a small space of time. Going to college in the first few years also adds a different aspect to the job, which most people enjoy.

In addition to this, the St Albans office has a number of social events (usually on a monthly basis) which gives you the chance to meet up with some of your colleagues you have not seen in a while.
