Coaching

Practice makes perfect. That is why we have invited employers to help you through the recruitment process from making the initial application to competing at an assessment centre. Our panel discussions and workshops with employers should have given you plenty of insight into what recruiters are looking for - these coaching sessions will help you put that into practice.

CV /Application Checking

You’ve put a lot of work into your CV or application, but you're never really sure how good it is. Come and have a recruiter cast their expert eye over it. They’ll either tell you it’s great, or point out a few areas where you could improve – either way, you’ll feel better when it’s time to send it off with increased confidence knowing an expert has checked it.

All Employer Application Checking takes place on Friday afternoons as per the dates below. Appointments are available at 15 minute intervals between 2pm and 4.30pm.

* Friday 14th October: SNR Denton or Network Rail
* Friday 21st October: Edwards Wildman Palmer UK LLP or The Financial Times
* Friday 28th October: Credit Suisse or Field Fisher Waterhouse
* Friday 4th November: Deloitte or RBS
* Friday 18th November: ARM Consulting or HSBC
* Friday 25th November: Citi or Herbert Smith LLP
* Friday 2nd December: Norton Rose Group or Bank of America Merrill Lynch
* Friday 9th December: Factset or Nabarro LLP

Visit the Careers Service webpage on CV/Application checking for full booking details.

Practice Interviews

Well done, you’ve got an interview. Whether this fills you with fear, excitement, or a bit of both, you can test out your technique with a recruiter, and receive immediate feedback on where to improve - as well as getting some nerves out of the way.

We ask employers to offer advice relevant to their sector and they're more than happy to talk to you even if you haven't applied to their organisation.

All Employer Led Mock Interviews will be held on Friday mornings from 9.45am to 12.45pm at half an hour intervals.

Dates of sessions and the employers involved are as follows:

* 4th November: Barclays Capital or DWF LLP (both now fully booked).
* 18th November: Deloitte or Standard Bank
* 25th November: FDM Group or Macfarlanes
* 2nd December: Citi or UKpowernetworks
* 9th December: Nomura or Royal Air Force

Slots are bookable in person, in advance at the Careers Service. You will then need to provide an electronic copy of an up-to-date CV for the recruiter to use as part of your session.

Mock Assessment Centres

You're at the final stage, but you may never have heard of an assessment centre before, or tried out some of the activities you'll be asked to do there. You will be given the opportunity to attend a practice assessment centre run by a range of graduate employers, covering exercises such as group discussions, presentations and case studies. You'll receive feedback on each stage and should leave with a sense of how you'd have performed in the real thing!

The mock assessment centre will be publicised on the Careers Service webpage on Mock Assesment Centres and directly to UCL Alert subscribers.

Please visit www.ucl.ac.uk/careers for further details on these events.
